hi,   2 pack paint is a heck of alot tought and durable than acrylic.

we have a 14 cfm air compressor and that works fine, but i wouldnt go tooooo small. ( those real cheap ones  u get for about 250 dollars)

etch is for putting over bare metal  but is rarely used.
using a seperate spray putty , and seperate primer  is old hat now,  use a 2pack primer /filler, goes on thik and  doesnt need a seperate primerer...

2 pack does NOT  need to be baked, i have sprayed a few cars , and my brother  has painted  many cars without a  `oven`.
baking a 2 pak job will  give it a neater finish  , which some times will not even need buffing/.

any automotive paint dealler will have a color book with chips in it, he should lend it to ya, or bring a bit of car in with the paint on it.

Subject: DIY Re-Painting

Hi again listers,

I have been very slowly trying to organise a 'quality' respray - it will cost about $2K.
Realistically, the whole car is not worth $2,000, even with 12 months rego and a full tank of fuel!

So I have decided, for a laugh, to have a go myself.
Can any one offer any hints?

What are the differences between Acrylic Laquer and 2 pack enamel paints?
What type of compressor and spray gun do I need, CFM rating etc..
What is the difference between all the primers, i.e etch, surfacer, filler???
What temperature do you need to 'bake' 2 Pack enamel.

The car is painted a particular colour (scarlet) that is not standard. I like it and would like to repaint it the same colour.
I can get the paint colour matched, but is there a colour chart or something so I can check that it is not a standard colour for another type of car?

Thanks heaps,
Nick
