Daniel,
I reckon 2 1/2" is probably ok up to 250hp and anything over that i would probably go for 3".Ive done quite a few 2 1/2" and 3" exhaust for turbo cars.Mainly 1600's,silvias,skylines and vl's.A vl with a 60 trim t3 i did went from 226rwhp to 256 rwhp going to a 3" from 2 1/2".I havent done any other before and after dyno runs but they all felt better with a 3".The 2 1/2" ones ive done felt heaps better than the standard stuff.A mate just did a 3" exhaust on a twin turbo 2.5 supra and you should have felt the difference. The standard exhaust was the worst ive ever seen.It was actually less the an 1 1/2" in places.Ive allways fitted 3" to turbo 1600's as most guys say they'll be happy when they run 12's which needs over 300hp to achieve. However after reading "maximum boost" by corky bell, it seems that he reckons that for the approximate engine power output of my engine, I should use a 2.5 inch system. The book also states that for a turbo setup the least exhaust is the best? I'm very confused by now. Anyway back to the 2.5 inch set-up, this size comes from a few calculations to do with exhaust gas velocities. He recommends that the exhaust gases shouldn't exceed ~450 feet per second, and thus a 3 inch system would be capable of much more than that, so no good? There's a bit more in the book but at this stage I've just become totally confused. Eagerly awaiting some opinions..................
