List,
The way that the nissan skyline hydraulic handbrake works is as follows. They have 4 wheel disc brakes, with a non ventalated rears, and single sliding piston aluminium caliper. The foot brakes works completely as any other car. The handbrake runs a cable to a splitter and then to each of the rear wheels. The piston in the caliper is not a smooth sided one but actually has grooves in a circular motion around it. With in the bore of the piston there is also some lugs that run in the grooves. When the handbrake is applied it actually turns the piston by a small lever which by the grooves moves the piston out towards and contacts the disc. When the foot brake is applied there does become the slightest slack in the handbrake cable but this is hardly noticeable. Hope this helps. I dont know any other cars that run this system Rowe, Adam writes: > As long as you keep your cable handbrake you can have another hydraulic one > and that is legal.
