i heard (and it could have been rumours) that all the Gen III chev motors have to have plugs changed when they're cold
coz they strip threads.  over in the USA they supposedly have all their engine helicoil'd before they're put in the car
coudl be a rumour, could be true

Mick,

This was a big problem in early motor cycles but i've removed a lot of hot plugs out of alloy heads on Dattos & Toys etc and never hurt a thread yet. Mind you I always spray some WD40 or eq on the plug before I re-fit it - don't ask my why I do this, just a habit.

regards
Terry

Subject: Plug chops

As an ex m/cycle (2 stroke) race mechanic I've always relied on this tried and proven method of checking mixture in the combustion chamber.
Many years ago I had a bad run with spark plug threads in the Datto A87 head and I was advised NOT to remove spark plugs when the engine is hot as the threads tend to distort and destroy themselves.
Is this true?
I only ever pull the plugs cold now but i would sorely love to do a few HOT 'plug chops' and have a good look.
Also thinking about fitting an 02 gauge
any thoughts?
cheers
Mick
