thanks Richard, I inspected it all today with the car on the ground and nothing was loose. the t/c rod bushes that terry and graham suggested have been replaced recently (but not in my time) they look to be in good nick. when I changed the crossmember a fair while ago I didn't change the control arm bushes (in hindsight I have no idea why I didn't!). will jack it up and check it tomorrow.   cheers, zac   ----- Original Message ----- From: Richard Clough To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, March 12, 2002 10:36 PM Subject: Re: Things that go clunk Zac, It sounds like worn or loose control arm rubbers allowing the struts to move back or forward under brakes in either direction. As you say you can feel it through the brake pedal, then some part of the suspension is moving under brakes and this is the most loaded suspension point under brakes in either direction. ----- Original Message ----- From: Zac Campbell To: Ozdat Sent: Monday, 11 March 2002 23:58 PM Subject: Things that go clunk Guys after finishing off my brakes I reversed out the driveway to find the car go 'clunk' when I stomped on the brakes. it does it when the front end cops a bit of a knock, either hard brake, or down a driveway. it will seem to do it once going forwards then not again, until it does it in reverse once (then not again in reverse). then it will do it going forwards again!!
