The way they affect tuning of the engine is basically by altering the 
length of the induction runner (from the tip of the trumpet to the head 
of the valve).  There's a formula in 21st Century Performance for 
working it out.  There is also an effect of the bellmouths of the ram 
tubes but since most people use sock filters this probably won't make 
any appreciable difference...... but it'd definately be open to debate I 
think :)
