Leighton, The trick is the valve timing is tuneable across a broad rev range. I digress a bit but look at the advancement of EFI over a carbie. A component that's got to operate inside a 0-7000 rpm rev range at it's static adjustment is a marvel in itself i.e. a carbie and that's why a Weber for example is so hard to set up in the first place. Add optimum adjustability to this item and you've got huge power gains and smooth driveability which Mr Joe Average wants in his road car. I think from memory the biggest increase of a non VVT engine to VVT is the H*nda S2000 which it pains me to say but it is a true legendary engine. Honda had the benefit of F1 engine technology and some nice things find their way down to the road cars. It's a pity Nissan/Toy etc didn't give this technology the R&D it deserved. It was boohooed by GM & Ford in the 80's when the H*ndah boys started to play with this in an attempt to beat Ferrari on the F1 circuits.
