The factory ECU's are better than the aftermarket ones.
You have lots of factory tested, high resolution  maps,limp home mode, compensation 
for sensor fail etc, etc.. And they are free (or not much extra) with the half-cut.
The only thing they lack is those high boost maps and the ability to run bigger 
injectors.

I thought a unichip or other piggyback ECU with FCD could be used for the high boost 
areas.

But if it is going to cost more than $500 + the frigging around, I agree you are 
better buying an aftermarket ECU for >$1K

Do the Porsche BOV's hold more than 20psi without leaking?
Do you know how much they cost?
