Thanks Tom, I'm not really interested in putting in a turbo, and would more interested in tuning up the current engine. I've got a basic knowledge of engines, but am not a real expert, hence the request for ideas.

Can you get insurance for a turbo? If so, a late-model twincam swap (ie RB20 etc) would probably be the best value-for-money. Would you rather develop a highly tuned naturally aspirated engine? If so you can look into the traditional stuff, ie camshaft, carburettors, compression ratio, diff ratio, manual transmission etc....
