Hmm only one I can think of at the moment. Helping two brothers ( no need to say who ) they probably don't like stories. Anyhow I thought I would help a them swap L16 for A L18 they hired a folding up engine hoist from some where. I look at the hoist and say it is missing a pin or a bolt they tell me the bloke they hired it of said they didn't need it.The bolt holds the top of the hydrolic ram thing in the mast of the hoist.
One brother was jacking the engine and the other was holding the light. Any how I think I was getting the locating dowel into place on the engine/gearbox and all of a sudden there is a huge bang I hit the floor get up to see one bloke still holding the light and the other was still standing next to the jack, handle in hand with a funny look on his face looking like he was still awaiting my instructions. The big bang was the bolt the chain was attached to head where we were lifting from snapped letting the engine drop in the engine bay the mast go flying up becase the load was instantly gone and that missing bolt was missing. It didn't end like that the boom did a whole 180 degree arc it then slipped of where it joins the mast (slipjoint) and went flying into the garden just behind. I am glad I hit the ground instead of just looking up becase my head may not be attached still as it was very close to the boom as it was. I still can't believe no one was hurt. Moral of the story listen to the older bloke when it comes to safety go find a bolt if we say it is needed. Later.
