As far as I've seen the only way around this when you have a FMIC is to get a very thin radiator- Steve Taylor's old car had twin 10" fans setup with his Z18. There's nowhere near enough space in my car with a standard 1600 radiator for even a 10" fan, so I reversed the fan blade and blow air in from the front.
