Daniel,

This is pretty much the case for fitting a 10" thermo fan on suck side with
a L engine, big alternator and stock thickness radiator. I used a coupled
fan of a L18 a/c engine for many years until just recently when it decided
to leak from the main shaft. I had a brand new solid fan pump in the spares
bin so I also got the Davies Craig out and when trying to fit it up I found
the same thing. As I see it you've got a few choices (and running without a
fan isn't one of them as I found things get warm pretty quickly in a traffic
jam) - run the thermo fan on the blow through side, tight fit for the
standard DC brackets I found, find/buy a coupled water pump, or do what I
did as I was in a hurry and just fit the smallest solid fan I could find. I
had a stock L16 fan under the house - it works well as it's pretty small,
not very noisy (can't hear it at all above the induction) and no noticeable
loss of power. I'd still like to fit the thermo one day when time permits.

regards
Terry

Subject: cooling fans

Hey guys, just a quick one on fans. I've put the radiator back in the
datto and have a 10inch thermo I was going to put on the radiator.
Problem is though, the only spot it will fit is in front of the
alternator, probably only 2mm away from the alternator drive pulley.
The problem with this is I wouldn't be able to change the fan belt if
it ever snaps. Anyone else had this problem when changing motors? The
only forseeable option is to stick the old plasitc blade fan back on
the water pump pulley and have it working all the time.

Any suggestions?

Cheers
