James, 9 litres for 120ks is 7.5 ltrs/100ks or ~35 mpg and I consider that to be pretty reasonable for a L16 especially at the speed you were travelling. Just think that if you drove at legal speeds you'd expect 40mpg from your engine - a 32/36 is a very economical carbie if setup right, and it's quite normal to use a choke to start with them. There is nothing wrong with having to use a choke especially a manual as at least you can decide when it's OK to turn it off.
