I am thinking that it is a problem with a sealed tank too. I think that pipe that I was connecting the overflows up to must be to release the fuel vapor from the tank, and my old carbies must have burned it off. When it was connected to the overflows, it would have been pressurising the float bowls even after the needle and seat had said enough, making it look like the needle and seat were cactus. That will teach me to think before I act. The car is a 260z 2 door. As for how hard they go, I havent gotten arround to giving it a good tune, so ill get back to you on that one.
