hi, if you look at a orange  ( we have  PLENTY up here in the sunny riverland, )  it has a fine bumpy surface.
when some one refers to orange peel  in paint  ity means it has the same type surface as the orange.
due to the paint being a bit too thick, or put on incorrectly.
it should be  okay like this, but it just means that you will have to   rub the paint back more  before you buff it.

you can wait a day before you buff it, but the longer you wait 1 to 2 weeks or so it will come up better.

as for the  paint dust , i dont bother about  getting it off between coats,   it doesnt  affect the final out come ,  IF it does make a difference  , the rub before you buff it will clean it up.
if you want to get rid of the paint dust between coats ,  dont use  thinners ,  go to a  panel shop , or auto paint shop  and get a tac rag, they come in a  small plastic bag, and have a  very low tac  which will pick up  all the paint dust , instead of thinners which will  soften the paint  , and leave wipe marks on the freshly sprayed paint.

yep, its just the base beacon red....whats orange peel???
on the tin of paint, it says to only wait a day until buffing?? i guess the longer i wait the better it will look?? im painting just the 4 doors, roof, and 1/4 panels at the moment (i have the other panels off the car to do later) so im thinking, ill just keep adding coats until i have used about 2ltrs of the paint
also, ive noticed, once ive done a coat, the roof gets covered in all the dried paint dust thats in the air....is is normal to wipe the car down (ill use thinners to do that) between coats??

cheers
ben

hi, if your doing a solid color  in acrylic laquer(not pearl or metallic),   its always good to put on around  7 or eight coats, or to allow your self enough build, to be able to color sand (wetrub with 1500 grit),  the orange peel out, and machine buff to a nice shine.
if your doing it in metallic or pearl put enough color on to get goood coverage, then apply 7 or 8 coats of clear for your build.
you could use less coats of paint but u dont want to  worry about any rub thru, if your rubbing out any imperfections out of the paint.
i have gone up to ten coats.
buff car after a few weeks of drying.
