Hi List, The car is a friend of a friend's 280z There is movement when you rock the front wheels top to bottom and side to side.
The owner complained of vibration at speed. I quickly tightened up one wheel bearing to see what effect it would have and the slackness went down 50%. But now the owner says the shimmy is worse! I am going to spend some time on it this afternoon, with torque wrench and weight gauge etc.. But to take all the slop out I am guessing that I am going to have to do the brearings up tight. I am guessing that the wheel will spin around twice before stopping. What is going on? is some slop in the bearings acceptable? Are the bearing surfaces worn too far? All advice is appreciated.
