Andrew The chassis rail to which the steering box is bolted tends to flex when it is loaded, some a lot more than others. Luke's is pretty bad and I cant drive his car without wanting to fix this. The problem is accentuated by wider, grippier tyres. The steering symptoms you are experiencing are typical of flex in the steering box mount. To check this, park on concrete and have someone move the steering wheel left to right and back. Watch the steering box and note if it is moving and flexing the chassis rail. It probably will be, and often an alarming amount.
To fix this you need to build a brace that bolts to the top of the steering box and is welded to a shaped, almost vertical flat steel bar that is bolted through the inner guard right beside the strut tower, for additional stiffening.
