I seem to recall that air resistance increases in a logarithmic fashion as speed increases, hence the limiting of top speed. e.g. air resistance/friction at 200km/h is more than twice it would be at 100km/h. So you need a pretty slippery car body shape and LOTS of power to get to 300km/h plus.
Q: What is the highest top speed anyone has ever heard a Datsun 1600 going at? Forget about the stock motor, I mean Turboed, Nitroed, Supercharged whatever? I guess it would be pretty difficult to crack much more than 230km/h with that body shape.
