I've
found that the easiest way to repair rust around the boot lip or any thin panel
sections is to first chop out the rust completely, the auto parts shop near my
place sells this aluminium mesh for $3 or something per sq ft. Use silastic or
glue and stick it to the inside of the boot so that you have a backing type of
surface. Then use a fibreglass repair kit and fill in the sections you need with
the fibreglass kit. Remove the aluminium mesh when your done & tidy it all
up with a file, whoopie, sandpaper and a can of paint. :)
Could
probably use flyscreen mesh instead of the expensive aluminium
stuff.
Dunno
about doing this on a nice car like a 1600, but ir worked a treat on my shitter
bluebird. It's not the "correct" way of doing this sort of repair, but it's
cheap and fibreglass doesn't rust!
