Thanks Jeff

My SSS has a similar carb setup (original fittings). It was the reverse of
yours when I bought it, it was weak as a kitten until I richened up the
mixtures. It really brightened up the performance with this simple tweak.
I also have a pair of 45mm webers to put on a competition engine for the
car. (I dont want to risk destroying the original matching numbered
engine).

A friend of mine years ago (1980's) ran an L16 powered 1600 in a Victorian
"road registered" race series that allowed very limited mods. His weber
powered 1600 motor was pretty quick in a tough field and it ran for three
years in the series without touching the engine. He then drove the car for
years on the road , still no rebuild, sold it to a 1600 collector, then
bought it back 5 years ago. His daughter drives it - engine still
assembled as it was for the race series, but the dizzy, cam and the webers
have come off, in the interests of easier driving.
