I've been spending my Sat at Canberra pickles auctions and have been bouncing between whatever sells cheap which means each w/end I come home with a different car in mind (Magna Tj2, VXII and lately XT Barra 182 - so much so ended up at the ford dealers to see how sparse the base XT was - suprisingly good: tip-tronic, electric drivers seat, 100W CD + str wheel cntrl, ABS, dual a/bag, IRS, trip computer, pwr fr wind hmm couple of factory 'sports' going for $32,990 or less + ORC which adds 17", sports IRS, subtle body kit...surely exhuast and chip will see an easy 195-200kw?! Big wheels and heavily dumped in the right colour I think even the basic BA looks sweet! Get the 5.4 and I got the poor man's DJR special if only I could get the valencio orange hue...and a few more kws.
Hmm if I just pulled my finger out and engineered the 1600 I'd be $30-40k better off!

Our R31 has a Nissan dealer fitted Gibson NA engine in it (supposed to have

perform better than the old ones as I've run them and they aren't any bother
to beat at all. The new BA XR6 Falcon gives the old girl a bit of a run
though, damn those things are fast. We aren't going to turbo it yet as
Julien is only 19 and he just can't afford even 3rd party turbo insurance.

RB30's are a tough motor only held back in top end performance by the inlet
manifold.
my mates was putting out 235kw's @ wheels with a standard bottom end, with
over 200K km's on it.
but like terry said, i would go the RB25det, or RB30et. they have MX7
gearboxes behind these motors, and are bullet proof, the RB20 has the same
box as the CA, or R31 non-turbo.
but like Neraj said RB20's are alot cheaper than a RB25, depends what you
want your Z to do?
just my 2 cents

RB30E kill a RB20DET??? I don't think so. You're right abt the insurance factor tho... Don't underestimate the RB20DET. I've got the silver-top one in my Cefiro and it hammers, running standard boosts and only turbo back exhaust. R31 RB20 had I think 142kw from memory vs 160kw from R32. Should be able to pick up a g'box s/hand ~ $300. Bob, are you in Melb? I'll soon need one, maybe be able to get cheaper if we're buying two :) Another advantage of RB20 vs RB25 is the big premium, RB20's are very well priced for what they offer.
Neraj.
