OTOH cast iron heads and blocks are 'hot tanked' in alkaline solutions which would actually dissolve an aluminium head given long enough....
I am cleaning up a suspect head, how do the head shops get them so clean? When I have got heads back from them they have always been so clean that any corrosion/cracks etc sticks out like crazy.
