Hey Errol
RE what Rick says on swapping in a sr16 vvt velo.
Why couldnt the SR16 couldnt be converted to rear wheel drive ?
I thought they were basicly the same block as the SR20 ?

The first SR16 I saw in Australia was sitting in a collection of Skyline
Turbos, Twin turbo Zeds and parts imported by a local (country based) "grey"
importer about 4 years ago. The importer new it was a real performer but he
couldnt find anyone in the area interested in a hipo 4 cyl - most of the car
guys here still drive V8 dinosaurs, (Clubbies and Ticklers) only a handful
have been encouraged to go for GTR's and Twin turbo Zeds. SR6 turbos are
starting to change the mindset.
He was asking $1650 for the SR16VVL and I was very tempted. It was an east
west driver and I checked it out to see if it could be converted to N-S
installation. Erroll advised not doable.
So in answer to the question, I think you will find one if you search
through the engine importers, question is how much are they asking?

Rick,
I thought that those things were hard to find here is Australia ?
I would really like one of those :)
Those Variable Valve Timing NEO's are little rippers if the engine spec
are
correct.
probably very revvy by the looks of things.

If you are allowed to swap engine types and dont get pushed up classes if
you stay at the same engine capacity, why not use an SR16VVL? Around
160HP
straight out of the box, naturally aspirated, reliable, no turbo dramas.

so add a bit for labour & we are talking $6000.00 just for the engine.
still buying a front cut & fitting an N/A SR or FJ isn't cheap either.
I keep going round and round in circles with all of the engine choices
available.
I dont know why but N/A seems to feel like the right way to go, but
forced
induction is light weight horsepower.
It's easy to get caught up worrying about CAMS classes as well.
An N/A FJ20 or SR20 is supposed to be 150hp, which is pretty good for a
stock engine.
KA24's are torquey, but you go up another CAMS class.
oh well, i have quite a few months ahead to consider my option i guess
:0)

My 1600 race engine had 92 Rear wheel kw's (approx 165 crank hp @ 7300
and 130 ft/lb torque @ 6000). Bare engine only (no carbs or dissy
flywheel or clutch), cost me $4200 to build in todays money with no
labour cost.

Thanks Errol & Heath,
any idea of cost to achieve that magic 170-175 hp ?
thats pretty impressive for an L16 :)
I wonder if it was all higher end power & not much torque ???

Around 170 crank hp is achievable.
A 2 litre will give better bang for your buck.

Speaking of L16's
what sort of power output can be made from an L16 ?
anybody got any rough idea of cost v HP for them ?
I am forward thinking to next year once I have my suspension sorted out
weather I should think about an engine transplant or just spend money on
improving the engine that I already have.
