sr20de speedo sensor engine cut out.

the sr20de is sitting in the engine bay of the 1600, hoping to be running  again next week :) I have a question about the speedo sensor. I have been told that there is some kind of problem with the engine cutting  out at about 6500 rpm due to a signal not going from the actual speedo back to the engine  computer. can anyone tell me if I need the actual speedo from the s13 dash or is there   some other fix for this.
