The other thing to be wary of with this sort of thing is introducing the wrong plant into an ecosystem. When I did hunger fundraising one of the plants we talked about and helped to distribute was the Moringa tree - absolutely amazing plant. It would grow 20' in a year [and did so in a friends yard in the Keys], we had hospitals in Africa using the leaves as nutritional supplements for the patients, and you could use it to purify water [including commercial applications, and possibly the same tree mentioned in Exodus Moses used to purify water] and press the seeds for cooking oil. I planted some out behind my house near a drainage creek. Big mistake. It drew unknown bugs that were not a problem anywhere else [with native flora] and was nearly impossible to kill. Great for areas where deforestation and malnutrition were problems, but not a good addition to central Florida [don't tell anyone I did it.] To be on the safe side have a chat with a local expert [extension agent??] where you are or check it out with ECNOnet.org first. Some of these exotics are becoming a real problem in the US. BillR

My experience thus far is that these plants are the most resilient thing I've ever seen. If you water them too much, all the leaves fall off, If they get too cold, all the leaves fall off. If you don't water them enough - all the leaves fall off. I've actually thrown out plants I thought were dead only to see them coming back to life in the compost pile. Keep them around and they will sprout new leaves and keep on trucking. They have a amazingly aggressive root structure. I left one pot on a gravel section by my house for a few weeks and found I could not lift it because the roots had grown through the holes in the bottom of the pot into the gravel. I've sent plants to friends in Florida and the Caribbean. Time will tell if they survive and bear fruit. -Dave Walton On 8/4/08, Rolf <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Keep me posted on how it goes.
