On soft surfaces, like dirt, sand, gravel, snow, or slush, braking
effect goes _way_ up once you can plow up a ridge in front of your
locked tire.  ABS will prevent this from happening.  ABS is good on
wet/icy/dry pavement, and bad on soft surfaces.
