Push the reset button in and let it snap back out, this usually clears it. This happens once in a while on my 300D, doesn't seem to cause any trouble other than that the trip odometer doesn't record.
If the odometer starts to slip (not record milage) but doesn't make any noises, it's time to glue the zinc drive gear back on -- this will eventually happen, I believe, to all VDO odometers someday. Easy fix, seems permanent. Do NOT reset the odometer while the car is moving, this will evetually cause the zinc gear to start slipping. Peter
