If I could go back and talk sense to myself I'd tell 18yo me to become a commercial electrician. Where I work we pay outrageous money to the guys who wire our machine rooms. One guy we use a lot is about 45, owns his own outfit with I think 3 or 4 trucks, he built it up over about 10 years from just doing his own thing to where he is now. He doesn't want/need to grow and plans to retire in about 10 years, sell the business for a million or more and hunt full time... -Curt

Student loans and the college requirement is just the latest in a long line of scandalous rip offs. I used to tell young men to join the military, no more. Now I suggest trade school, welders, auto mechanics, plumbers, a.c. tech's. All great paying jobs where they can remain debt free and live within their means. All in all, if my job at the University of Florida was not paying for school, I would not be attending. Take the Red pill and join the masculine side. It is not for everyone, but apparently from what I read in these emails, most of you men are already part\mostly there. Also, speaking from firsthand experience (idiot grandson#2) these loans are handed out with no regard for scholastic ability or likelihood of repayment. The interest rates are obscene (3.76-6.31%) for today's environment. And these loans are guaranteed by the government (that's us) so the lenders can't lose, just like the home loans underwritten by Fannie May and Freddie Mac or bundled and sold. Is this a big and growing problem? Just look at the data: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/FGCCSAQ027S I haven't been a student in a civilian university since the 80s so I don't really know what goes on there. But it's easy to conclude from many, many reports that the liberal arts colleges have become the cesspool of higher education.
