Not sure I want to wait that long or drive that much to enjoy this

"expire", as in the classic Monty Python "parrot" sketch?
I mean simply that after about 40kmi of using Mobil 1 (changed over
between 140-150kmi) the engine became so quiet (I could still feel it
running at idle) that I couldn't hear it when sitting inside the car at
idle with the windows closed. After I replaced all of the motor, exhaust
and transmission soft parts (mounts, flex discs, bearing and exhaust
hanger mounts) I could NO longer even feel the engine idle. Scary.
Quietest diesel I had ever experienced (except my '87 300TD for the 1st
couple of years after I got in new) and that from a 201 190D 2.2 with
about 190kmi on it. I'm still running that engine (250kmi on it now) but
the car it's in now (daughter demolished it's former chassis) is about
done and should be retired (I believe the engine would be good for
another 150-200kmi - starts immediately on first compression stroke even
in zero F weather).
