I am too. We've taken my 190D to Maine for the weekend (about 150 miles each
way). My Italian tuneups seem to have paid off, the trip is at 300 miles right
now and the tank is still on half. Last week when I thought I'd run it out of
fuel it took 14gal so I'm thinking I've finally gotten to around 40mpg.

That said my wife has informed me that the passenger seat needs rebuilding
like the driver's did. It also needs a replacement seat switch. I gotta give my
MasterCard a couple more weeks to recover before I give Rusty another call...
That stuff isn't cheap but the drivers seat is SO nice now.

Did I mention when I reassembled the driver's seat I couldn't find any
regular grease in the apartment to lube the tracks with. Rather than wait for
my wife to come home I grabbed the only stuff I could find which was the
remainder of the sunroof grease I'd bought for my 240D. I figued if it was good
enough for a sunroof its good enough for seats. Seems to work fine.

Im really starting to take to the little 201's. This one drives pretty
well, tranny doesnt appear yet to be to screwed from the coolant in it.
So lets just pray for the best. Im really wanting to get a 5 speed
version as well as a 2.5 turbo version soon. As a side note, the
tranny
in the 85 300D has not started slipped, especially when going from 2nd
to 3rd. Also seem to not catch gear sometimes when downshifting at
certain situations. If yo ugo ahead a floor it and force it down to
the
next gear it kicks down and goes. This is just great.

If you saw the degree of field engineering Dad and I did today working on a
Brinly sleeve hitch on my '64 Cub Cadet you'd know why I won't razz you about
that.
I'm too cheap to buy a full 3pt hitch and brinly adapter on eBay (could be
$300 or better) so I bought the basic parts and will build the rest from
standard hardware. Today I got the 3pt hitch mostly together before it started
raining. Hopefully tonight and tomorrow I can get the Brinly together.

Man, I lob an easy one to y'all and nobody even swats at it?
How about my next write-up being on the types of glue and knots
that work best for repairing rubber bands? I was expecting at
least a _little_ bit of razzing.

Neither, its really more of full power used over time. Its the extra heat
developed at full power that loosens the carbon and time that allows it to
flake off and come out.

Ahh. And there are definite corollaries between Volvo owners and Saab
owners. We all just like well-made, intelligently-designed autos.

Glad I saw this thread. I've been wondering, as I put my 240D through
its
paces, which is a more important element of the Italian Tune-up: the
RPMs or
the acceleration? I've been following the advice of the list and
driving my
new (used) engine in banshee-like fashion.

Sacrilege! Use of sunroof grease on seat tracks is _only_ called for
if the sun shines out your ... :-)

Y'know, I think it might actually be what is called for in a 107 seat,
since those have glides in the tracks instead of ball bearings.

I used spray lithium grease on the 240D, but only after solvent-tanking
the tracks and working them to get the old guck out. That certainly
went on much easier than using regular grease as I did the last time
I worked on 123 seat tracks. The little applicator tube was perfect
to run down the cracks as I sprayed.
