Seems like you might need a heavier flywheel to get it to keep running on two cylinders. Other than that, I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work. If you're running a gen set the generator armature may provide enough extra mass. It will vibrate like crazy so come up with a good isolation system when you mount it.
