Ok then did MB give him the option of returning it to them for repairs or did they just tell him to blow off? It is also not illegal for a collector to own that car in the US just may not be operated upon the highways.

He imported a car that not only wasn't sold in the U.S., it wasn't even
legal here.  Now he's finding out how it works when you buy something on
the gray market.  If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces; the
manufacturer has no obligations.

It's not unlike if you buy a Ford and drive it into Mexico.  If it
breaks down, they're not going to send someone down there to fix it for
you.  If you want warranty service you'll have to drag it back into the
U.S., first.
