A hood pad was OEM on my 1970 280SE 3.5 W111 coupe. I know this for a fact because I purchased one from the dealer that fits perfectly.

I was being facetious about the spray on. I got Gump a nice w123 pad and installed that a few years ago. so far it is doing just fine. There was some damage from excess B100 leaking from a return hose and a bolt out of place, but other than that, I expect another 7 years on the pad.
