My daughter and some of her friends decided they wanted to go to
Chicago over spring break last year. They thought the train sounded
like a fun way to get there. After 22 hours to get from Dallas to
Chicago, they all cashed in their return ticket and flew home. She
said it was the most miserable trip she'd ever taken.

European and Japanese rail systems are a great way to get around, but
AMTRAK in the midwest is a joke.

you are making me want to go somewhere by train!

last time i went anywhere was like 20 years ago, from san jose, ca to
seattle. i kind of enjoyed it . they had some kind of very cheap
promo deal on that train from los angeles, so we played lots of
different card and tile games with people from the hood we would never
meet otherwise. i didn't like sleeping in the seat though. i think
if i had some kind of sleeper car, the trip would have been just
grand.
