Hi James,
Thanks for your help and pointing out a few things to watch for. Love the
V12 cars. I like the early ones as I belive they had a little more power,
and didn't have the two tone interior? I saw a really nice '98 S500 the
other day, and even hung around in the parking lot for 45 minutes, hoping to
catch them, but no show, so I left.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the shop manual for the W140? A
link or .pdf file would be great.

Thanks again for your help James. Hope the back is feeling better.

We have a 1992 600SEL. The 1992-1995 S-Class cars used bio-degradeable
wiring harness's under the hood. If your car starts throwing error codes
it
isn't the senders - it's the wiring harness.

Another known issue is the evaporator core - local guy can do them for
$3300
using factory parts.

Rear accumulators - two nitrogen filled spheres ( softball size ) affect
rear ride for ASD. The nitrogen leaks past the seal and the dampening is
gone. Not wiring related but you might as well replace that harness also
when your replacing all the other ones.

V-8 motors have the oil tubes on top the motor that get brittle & break
and
also get clogged - easy DIY fix.

V-12 motors typically need the ETA's replaced. $3500 each from the dealer.

I have heard that the door & trunk closers can die, haven't experienced
that
yet.

1996 - 1999 use OBD2 computer systems diagnosis which is much better than
OBD1 and the wiring harness's hold up much better.

Find a local shop with old school guys working there. Dealerships
typically
use FNG's because their cheap. But they're also clueless.
