Try a different resolution, the monitor has native resolutions at which it will look best, if it has to interpolate pixels it'll get fuzzy. If its a 16x9 monitor your old video card may just not be up to the job. On an old mac thats pretty much tough tiddlies. You might be able to find an ATI 9600 Mac version but it'll be $ to the point you might be better off getting a new computer.
