THAT'S JUST IT -- THE SELECTIONS ARE NOT IN THE SAME WINDOW.
This is what's so irritating. Some text is selected in a topLevel stack.
I click on a palette stack containing the comboxbox, and the text of the
combobox becomes selected, while the original text becomes UNselected.
Excuse me while I surgically remove some more hair from my scalp.
