Both stack and standalone -- made on Mac, moved to Windows, saved there,
and standalone was built while on Windows.

I hit this same thing yesterday -- nothing I did would change the font,
or the size, or anything.
So then I noticed that if tried Monte's suggestion of resetting the
htmltext of the field, the horrible spacing problems corrected
themselves, though the font problem did not. Something clicked and I
checked the formatForPrinting property of the stack -- which was set to
true. (!) I could have set this myself at some point, but I doubt it
very much since the stack is never printed and I'd have no reason to set
the property.
The stack was an imported HyperCard stack, so I am wondering if the
import incorrectly set this property. Or maybe something else during
normal editing set it. Or maybe I set it myself and am just too dizzy to
remember doing it.
At any rate, when I set the formatForPrinting of the stack to false,
fonts were once again chooseable and the text wrap corrected itself. I
have sent the stack to my client for testing and can let the list know
if this fixed the bad display on his Windows machines.
Now, the puzzling part is: why did the stack display just fine on my
Win98 machine, and also under Win95 running under Virtual PC, but not on
five various Windows machines my client has? The fonts in the stack are
only Helvetica and Times, which are supposed to be automatically mapped
to Ariel and Times New Roman. Hm. It works where I am, but not where he is.
