I have cut a bit of Ti and there are a couple
recomendations I can give you. For bigger cuts, a TiCN M42 cobalt rougher
works surprisingly well. Like Hanita or Niagra. For under 1/2" dia,
I like three flute, carbide with a TAiLN coating, like Data Flute similar.
They make a 1/2" dia, 3 flute,with 5/8 LOC and a .015 corner radius that cuts
like you wouldn't believe. I don't remember SFM, but I think its in the
200's. IPT is around .002 so it works pretty well. I will run it a
1/4" deep, 1/2 to full radial depth and the cutter seems to go forever. I
have found that RobbJack ball mills do NOT work so well because they have the
helical gash on the end which tends to weaken the point and it fails. I
used ULTRA-TOOL 3 flute 3/8" dia ball mills for rough surfacing some Ti and they
seem to work great. Hope this helps, and good luck on your
run.
