The problem most users are having is GRAPHICS printed too
light and in
Portrait format. A solution is to add a second copy of the printer using (Win9x/NT4) Start-Settings-Printers-Add Printer DO NOT set this one as your Windows default printer Once the second copy is installed, rename it to something appropriate, like GRAPHICS. Set the properties by right clicking and choosing Properties or Defaults (Depends on Win or NT). Best graphics settings are around 150dpi. My preference is Landscape. Once defaults are set, select (in SmartCam) File-Print-Graphics. Select the printer you just setup. WHILE the print dialog box is still open File-Save Defaults. This will lock in the printer for SmartCam graphics. Notes: I set mine up for an HP855C. I also ran that same printer with a HP850C driver. This driver is more limited in that it had DRAFT, NORMAL and PRESENTATION settings instead of dpi settings. The results were not as good. If you are stuck with that type of driver try another one within the family - 500, 600 700 or 800. If you don't want to experiment, call printer manufacture and ask them. Tell them you need a driver that will allow you to set the dpi. Some drivers allow you to set the density or brightness independently. Again by using a second, dedicated driver you can set them to suit your graphic needs without messing up your text requirements. This should also work with any laser printer. I didn't have time to test it today, but have used the 150dpi on our network laser before we got the inkjet. 150dpi is the best, lower and it looks like etch-a-sketch. Higher and the lines become finer thus lighter. If anyone has any improvements or takes issue with my advice, please let us know. |
