> Mandriva, for the last two years, has been releasing a spring and fall
version of their software. The software comes in two formats, one is
free and the other, called PowerPack, cost $69, or $89 -- if you want
the physical "howto" book from Mandriva to be included. Both offer free
and contracted support; the (free) support folks tend to respond within
twenty four hours after I've sent them a question. It's also been my
experience that the fall version repairs buggy behaviour of the spring
release. At the moment I'm running the fall version of 2009; It's
wonderful. It's the first experience with a version of linux I've had
that non-programmers can use successfully; updates are automatic and
urpmi solves most of the other problems and OpenOffice removes most
reasons for folks to need a Windows computer.

The only windows (server) feature I've not yet been able to overcome
without loading a physical copy of Windows is bill paying on a server that
servers blank pages to all non-Windows based operating systems. In this
case, my way to defeat such "best" practises is to call up the credit card
company and dump my card in favour of one that doesn't permit
"if(navigator.appName.indexOf('Microsoft') == -1 ... you know the rest.

For me, there's one feature that Linux offers, which sets it above any
other PC OS offered and that feature is that Linux offers many "flavours",
each catering to some specific quality, which provides the end user with
pre-configured setups that are quite marvellous. And with Vmware, you're
not limited to anyone version, (except for the hardware requirement to run
them all simultaneously).

well that's my two cents, Nick

 I tried KDE4, it's a mess!!! A lot of the applets haven't gravitated
