Re: KDE 4 -- KDE 4.0 and 4.1, yes I agree -- they needed work and I 
couldn't tolerate either version.  However I'm happy to say KDE 4.2 
actually seems okay -- I find it not only usable but even likable, 
which I couldn't say about any prior version.  I loaded it from 
Debian Experimental, which is interesting because a command line 
option is required on top of adding the repository -- 
i.e. 'aptitude -t experimental'.
