Congrats Jack!

Dual boot: This is an endless chasm with dark scary monsters.  There are some 
solutions for dual boot.  Here's an article with Linus addressing the issue:

You can learn to use windows 8.  But it requires a shift in paradigm and a 
willingness to use gestures on the trackpad. 

Test your restore disk in another virtualbox BEFORE wiping out your current 
system!

And I'm sure there will be some folks who have good advice regarding a flash 
based disk and issues with /tmp and swap.  But I have lived with Ubuntu on an 
SSD for about a year without any special changes or considerations.
