What's the going rate for the LS1 setup, $4k for the entire driveline with ECU/wiring? I think I saw an LS6 setup for $8-9k once... ouch. Makes my 302 look free. ;)

LS>1's are very expensive in the recycling world currently. They aren't
used in vehicles that had the volume of F-bodies. For less than the in
pricedifference to the LS1, you can easily exceed the newer engines power
level with simple mods.

I took a cruise through your build blog and it looks pretty nice.
I have a friend who a) already has an LS1 powered FD, and b) has another
LS1 on the shelf waiting for for a project to materialize.
