The '04 GTO is supposed to be the high water mark for LS1s.? It has the LS6
intake?which helps when adding headers, cam, etc.? 305 is also a common stock
RWHP number for 04 GTOs but simple I/E bolt-ons and a tune get it to?350
rwhp.?? There are many 450 rwhp 04 GTO's running around with not much more than
a cam, TB?and 5.3L modified heads. ?About the only nice thing about getting a
real LS6 for a swap is the valve springs are already there for an additional
500 rpm but I don't think that is worth $4000 extra.

The rated HP from GM is more marketing than dyno reality. The LS1 was
underrated. About 305 rwhp is normal in the F-body. The C5 Z06 is around
355 rwhp so the real difference is like 50 hp not the 80 that the ratings
would have you believe. Add a mild to medium cam, headers and free flowing
inlet and exhaust and the LS1>LS6.
