I've repaired gas tanks w/ fiberglass. Clean the surrounding area well with degreasing solvent (adhesive cleaner, brake cleaner, etc.), scuff the area w/ 120 grit sandpaper and glass over. I like the resin with milled fiberglass in it for increased strength. The repair lasted for years and was still intact when it met it's demise. Of course, a replacement tank is preferable.

Its in a flat area on the bottom, and I could remove it, flush with soap and water of all gas residue, and then perhaps pop rivet a sheet metal patch with jb weld or something. Any better ideas?
