I wanted to pull the battery cable first to try to determine if it was a
battery or alternator issue.

I put a load on the engine and she died when I pulled the battery cable. So
at least I have a some proof that it's the alternator.

Thanks for all of the help!

As you suspect the alternator is failing and will probably replace it, why
not remove it and take it to Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, or some other
parts store that can test its output at different RPM ranges? If it turns
out that it IS failing, you can trade it for core charge at the store to
reduce the price of the new one.

I think my alternator is going out. Will removing the negative cable while
the engine running tell me if it's putting out juice. I know this is really
old school, but it's a quick check.

The car is a '91 with a Link computer.
