Here's my best Bird story....
Went to the landmark dedication a few years ago. Spent three days in
LA with a group of cool Blueboarders and attended some events.
Bird was at most of them and was strutting around like a
peacock...telling her stories about her and Dennis when she was a
young kid and how she hid in the bathroom at a gig and spied on him
(scary enuff right there!).
One event was a cool bus trip through LA to see BB sites and
landmarks. This is the trip where Dominic Priore and Peter Reum
chartered a greyhound and did a tour of BB places like Hawthorne High,
Fosters Freeze, Pandora's Box, LA Fire Museum (place where the SMiLE
"fire" video was shot), etc.......
One stop was at the El Rey theatre where Priore and Reum arranged
through David Leaf for Brian to meet the group out in front of the El
Rey Theatre.
All through the tour, Bird is holding court on the bus about this and
that and how she was here and there and all of her insider
connections.
So, unbeknownst to the tour group, the chartered greyhound pulls up
to the El Rey and Brian gets on and stands up by the driver,
addressing the group for a few moments. The bus group goes nuts and
everyone stands up in the aisles to see / hear him….except for the
BIRD, who is in the bathroom of the bus!!!!
Apparently, she hears the commotion and bails out of the bathroom,
making a charge towards the front of the bus, however, the aisle is
full of people, and she's at the very back!
So, she grabs some bottled water from a cooler in the back and screams
for everyone to “CLEAR THE AISLES”, “I’m supposed to bring Brian his
water!”….literally bodychecking people out of the way to get up front…
By the time she got half way there, BW is on his way out of the bus
and off to Sunday lunch with Leaf….
Needless to say, NO ONE used the bathroom for the remainder of the
tour, and a very dejected bird sat there pouting for the rest of the
afternoon.
It was a cool tour, BTW as we stopped to see Carl and Audree’s
gravesites and passed by the former location of Western Studios and
the Radiant Radish!
