I believe that when Brian tanks on Mike and says he hates him and won't work with him, he's repeating Melinda's words and is doing so to appease her. I have no doubt that the Mike hating issue completely stems from Mel. When Mike sued Brian, he also sued Melinda, and she's the one that can't take it. I honestly think Brian might like to be a Beach Boy one more time. I really do...but it's Mel that doesn't want it to happen. She wants Brian to be THE BEACH BOYS, and give credit nowhere else. She wants Brian's SMiLE to be the ONLY SMiLE, and has really thrown a wrench into the works concerning a SMiLE box set from Capitol. It's all her. She's the problem.
I agree that Mike's actions have been questionable and rotten in the past, but business is business, and I think Brian understands that. It's more than understood nowadays that you don't go into business with family. Too late for them...but I think Brian would like to do it again. Brian understands the ramifications of a Beach Boys reunion. 50 years in the music biz! That's a long fuckin' time! I really think he'd like to do it...but it'll be over Melinda's dead body. I think she'll do EVERYTHING in her power to try and make it NOT happen. Brian doesn't have a lot of leverage there, and she just may wrap up those kids and hit the trail and make him pay through the nose for the rest of his life, but I really hope he tells her to kiss his ass and does it. My idea of a 50th reunion would be Brian, Mike, Al, Bruce, Blondie, Ricky, Hinsche, Foskett, Carter, Justyn Wilson and Carl B. Wilson (the musician sons of the late Wilson brothers). Of course, the band would have to be fleshed out with other musicians from Brian's band and the current touring BB band, but there should be no other "musician stars" other than the remaining Beach Boys on stage. They don't need Ringo, Diken, or Springsteen on stage with them to make the show.
