1938 – Glenn Miller signs on Ray Eberle as his vocalist for $35 a
week, and records "Sold American."
1940 – The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, along with Frank Sinatra and The
Pied Pipers, record "I'll Never Smile Again."
1960 – The Everly Brothers' former label, Cadence Records, releases
the single, "When Will I Be Loved" b/w "Be-Bop-A-Lula."
1963 – Paul Revere and The Raiders sign their first major label
contract with Columbia Records.
1964 – Elvis Presley's ninth movie, Follow That Dream, opens in
theaters nationwide.
1964 – Ella Fitzgerald hits #34 in the UK charts with her cover of The
Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love," becoming the first outside artist to
have a hit with a Beatles song.
1965 – The Bachelors perform "Marie" and "I Believe" on The Ed
Sullivan Show. Also on the show is Liza Minnelli, performing "All I
